We are pleased to welcome China Nuclear Energy Industry Co., Ltd. (CNEIC) to the World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) global membership this November.

China Nuclear Energy Industry Co., Ltd. (CNEIC) was established in 1980 as the first significant international trading company in China’s nuclear sector following the reform and opening up. Over nearly four decades, CNEIC has played a pivotal role in strengthening China’s nuclear industry. In 2017, the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) merged CNEIC with China Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd., creating a new CNEIC with integrated operations covering nuclear fuel research, development, manufacturing, sales and international trade services. This merger enhanced CNEIC’s capabilities, allowing it to enter the global nuclear fuel market and gain international influence.

Joining WNTI, CNEIC will now engage with a network of international experts and organisations dedicated to promoting best practices in the transport of radioactive materials. WNTI provides a platform for its members to collaborate on key issues, share technical expertise and develop guidelines that ensure the highest standards of safety and security in nuclear transport.

The inclusion of CNEIC in the WNTI underscores the growing importance of global cooperation in the nuclear sector, as countries and companies work together to address the challenges and opportunities presented by nuclear energy. CNEIC’s membership is expected to further enrich the dialogue within the WNTI community, contributing to the advancement of safe nuclear transport practices worldwide.

The WNTI community warmly welcomes CNEIC, and are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration that enhances safety, security and innovation in the transport of nuclear materials.
